How to share a submission link with students

Need a fast and simple way for students to submit their assessments directly to Marking.ai? Our new Student Upload Link feature allows you to generate a secure upload link that students can use to submit their work — no scanning through piles of paper or juggling email attachments needed!

This guide will walk you through how to set it up.


✨ Step 1: Start by Clicking “Mark Submission”

From your dashboard, click the “Mark submission” button.

You’ll now be presented with two options:

  • “I will upload myself”
  • “Students will submit via upload link”

👉 For this guide, select “Students will submit via upload link”.

This is the option that allows you to generate a unique link for your students to upload their own submissions.

📂 Step 2: Choose or Upload Your Assessment

You now have the choice to either:

✅ Use an Existing Assessment

Select from your list of assessments that have already been uploaded into Marking.ai.

OR

🆕 Add a New Assessment

If this is a brand new task, you’ll need to upload the following:

  • The assessment PDF (max file size: 20MB)
  • A marking guide
  • Any extra context you’d like the AI to consider
  • An assessment name (this is what students will see when uploading)

Once your assessment is uploaded or selected, click:

A pop-up will appear with your unique upload link, ready to be copied and shared.

You can share this link with your students through any channel — email, SMS, WhatsApp, or directly via your LMS.


⏳ Note on New Assessment Uploads

If you’ve just uploaded a new assessment, the platform will take approximately 5 minutes to process the assessment and marking guide.

👉 Students should not upload their submissions until processing is complete.

To check if it’s ready, click “View uploaded assessment” in the upload link pop-up.

When students open the link, they’ll be prompted to:

  1. Enter their full name
  2. Upload their submission (PDF, max 10MB)

If the file is too large, they’ll be shown a link to a free compression tool to reduce file size.

Once they hit “Submit”, their file is:

  • Instantly uploaded into your Marking.ai dashboard
  • Automatically marked using our AI engine

📩 You’ll Be Notified

You’ll receive an email notification once the student’s submission is uploaded and marked. From there, you can:

  • Review the marking
  • Provide additional comments
  • Control when and how feedback is released

✋ Student results are never shared automatically. You stay in control.


Q: Can students upload more than once using the same link?

A: No, each student can only make one submission per assessment. Make sure they’re uploading the final version.


Q: Can I use the same upload link for multiple students?

A: Yes! The link is universal — multiple students can submit to the same assessment using the same link.


Q: What file types do students need to upload?

A: Submissions must be in PDF format and under 10MB in size.


Q: How do I resend the link if a student loses it?

A: Simply go to your Assessment Dashboard, find the assessment, and click “Get student upload link” again to copy and resend.


Q: Will students see their marks right away?

A: No. You control when feedback is released. Students will only see their results after you approve and share them.


Q: Can I delete or disable a submission link?

A: Currently, links stay active until the assessment is removed. If you need to stop submissions, we recommend notifying your students or deleting the assessment from your dashboard.
