How to use the remark feature on Marking.ai
The Remark feature is designed to give you even more control and precision when it comes to marking your students’ work. Whether you’ve spotted an error in the original evaluation or you’ve updated the marking criteria, Remark empowers you to request a fresh assessment of individual answers with just a few clicks.
Who Can Use This Feature?
The Remark feature is available exclusively to users on paid plans. If you’re on a free plan, consider upgrading to access this advanced functionality.
When to Use Remark
- You believe the original mark was either too high or too low
- You have updated the student’s answer or the marking guide
- You want to ensure greater accuracy in borderline or complex answers
How to Remark an Answer
-
Navigate to the Mark Details Screen
Locate the answer you want to remark and open the detailed marking view.

-
Click the “Remark Answer” Button
You’ll find the Remark button at the top-right corner of the screen. Click it to begin the remarking process.

-
Provide Context
A prompt will ask whether the original mark was too high or too low. Be sure to select the appropriate option.
-
Add Additional Instructions (Optional, but Recommended)
Include any specific feedback or context that helps explain why the original mark may have been incorrect. The more detailed your input, the more accurate the revised mark is likely to be.

-
Wait for the Remark
After clicking the “Remark Answer” button, a loading spinner will appear while the platform processes the request.

-
View the Updated Mark
Once complete, a “Remarked” banner will appear next to the newly generated mark, indicating the update has been successfully applied.

Remarking After Editing
If you’ve made changes to either the student’s response or the marking guide, you’ll also be prompted to remark the answer. This ensures the updated information is taken into account and the mark reflects the latest input.
Bulk remarking
When you have edited the marking guide for a question, you can remark all the student answers to that question in bulk.
- Visit the ‘Assessments’ page and choose the question you want to edit the marking guide for

- Click ‘Save and remark X answers’ on the top right. Remarking will commence.

- All answers that are being remarked will show the ‘Remarking in progress’ badge. Once marking is complete, this will update to ‘Remarked’.

Remarking is a powerful way to ensure accuracy, transparency, and fairness in your assessments. Make the most of it by providing clear feedback and using it in situations where judgment calls need a second look. If you need further support, our team is always here to help!
