View and Edit Your Created assessments

Before we begin, let’s clarify the ‘jargon’ that we use at Marking.ai.

Assessment - an assessment is the file you upload that contains the questions and marking guidelines.

Submission - A submission is the file that contains the student answers to that associated assessment

Why would you want to edit an assessment?

  • Check the assessment PDF that you’ve uploaded has processed correctly - so that the assessment contains the correct number of assessments, with the correct number of marks allocated for each question.
  • Check that the marking guidelines for each question are accurate and up to date, to ensure that marking accuracy is optimised.

Viewing Your Created assessments

  1. Access the Assessments List: Log in to your Marking.ai account. On the main dashboard, select “Assessments” from the navigation pane.
  2. Browse Your Assessments: You’ll see a list of all the assessments you’ve created. Use the search function to quickly find a question by entering a keyword or topic.

Editing an assessment

Select an assessment: Find the assessment you wish to edit. You can either click the ‘View submissions’ button to view all the submissions for the assessment (see this related article) or you can click the three dots next to the assessment. This gives you the option to ‘Edit questions’ for your assessment, or if you created your assessment using a PDF upload, you can download the original assessment that you uploaded.

Click on ‘Edit questions’ to view all the associated questions for that assessment.

You will now see a list of all the questions for the assessment you have selected along the left hand side. These blocks contain the question number, a preview of the question text, and the number of marks for that question.

Making Changes

  1. Edit Fields: Click the ‘Edit’ button on the main interface to edit details about the question.
    • Change the Question Text: Edit the wording or content of your question.
    • Adjust Total Marks: Modify the mark allocation as necessary.
    • Revise the Marking Guide: Adjust the criteria for how the question should be marked. Read this article to learn more about the marking guide.
  2. Save Your Changes: Once you are satisfied with the updates, click the blue Save changes button to apply the changes.

Confirmation of Edits

After saving, the changes are immediately reflected in your question list.

If you made changes to the number of marks for the specific question you have edited, this will also reflect in the total marks for your assessment.

Remarking after changing the marking guidelines

Marking.ai premium users can automatically commence remarking when the marking guide for a question is edited.

When you’re in edit mode and you edit the marking guide, a button saying ‘Save and remark x answers’ will appear.

Clicking this button will commence the remarking of all answers to that question immediately.

Other actions

When you’re back on the main ‘Assessments’ page, you can click the three dots next to the assessment to take more actions.

  • Edit questions - allows you to edit the questions in that assessment (as above)
  • Student upload link - copies the student upload link to your clipboard, if you want to share a URL with your students for them to upload their submission
  • Edit total marks - edit and override the overall total marks for the entire assessment
  • Edit name - edit the name of the assessment
  • Download assessment PDF - download the original file that you uploaded to create the assessment
  • Delete ❗- deletes the entire assessment - this will also distort all associated student submissions

Conclusion

Once you’ve uploaded your assessment PDF to Marking.ai, it is important to review how it has been processed before you commence any bulk marking. This is so that the student answers get mapped to the correct questions, the correct number of marks are awarded for each question, and the marking guide is exactly how you want it for optimal marking accuracy.
