The assessment detail tabs

When you open an assessment, you’ll see up to four tabs across the top of the page. Each one gives you a different view of what’s going on with your class — from the raw submissions to a deeper analysis of how your students performed.

This article walks through what’s on each tab.

Submissions

The Submissions tab is the default view. It shows every student submission you’ve uploaded for the assessment, with:

  • Status — marked, queued, processing, failed, etc.
  • Student — who the submission belongs to (if linked)
  • Score — the mark and percentage
  • Submitted at, Marked at, and other timestamps

From here you can:

  • Click a row to open the Mark details workspace for that submission
  • Filter by status, score, or date using the filter panel
  • Sort by clicking any column header
  • Bulk-select to share, retry, or delete in one go

This is the tab you’ll spend most of your time on.

Overview

The Overview tab appears once you’ve marked at least one submission. It gives you a class-level snapshot:

  • Headline metrics — average mark, pass rate, students marked
  • Score distribution — a chart showing how marks are spread across the class
  • Pass threshold control — set your own pass mark and watch the chart respond
  • Students needing support — a list of students whose results suggest extra help

Questions

The Questions tab is your per-question analysis. Once you’ve marked some submissions, this tab shows you how the class did on each individual question:

  • Average mark per question
  • Question difficulty ranking
  • Outliers and score patterns
  • A breakdown of which questions are pulling the class up or down

Great for spotting the questions that need a re-teach, or the ones that worked exactly as intended.

Misconceptions

The Misconceptions tab surfaces patterns in the wrong answers — the common mistakes your students are making. Marking.ai groups similar errors together so you can see them at a glance.

Use this tab to plan re-teaching, target follow-up questions, or pick up themes for a class debrief.

When tabs appear

The Submissions tab is always there. The other three (Overview, Questions, Misconceptions) only appear once you’ve marked at least one submission — there’s nothing to show until then.
