Pausing your subscription
If you’re going to be away from Marking.ai for a stretch — summer holidays, parental leave, a term off — you can pause your subscription instead of cancelling. Pausing keeps your account intact, stops your billing temporarily, and makes it easy to come back.
This article walks through pausing.
How pausing works
When you pause:
- Billing stops — we don’t charge you while you’re paused
- Your monthly allowance freezes — you don’t accrue or spend submissions while paused
- Your data stays — every assessment, submission, mark, share link, and student record is preserved exactly
- Marking is disabled — new marking jobs can’t run while you’re paused
- Reviewing and exporting still work — you can still open old assessments, share existing results, and download reports
How to pause
- Open Settings → Billing.
- Click Pause on your plan card.
- Confirm in the dialog.
The pause takes effect immediately. You’ll see your plan card update to Paused.
Resuming
Ready to come back? Open Settings → Billing and click Resume. Your subscription is reactivated, your monthly allowance is restored, and marking is back on. You’ll start being billed again from the resume date.
Pausing vs. cancelling
| Pause | Cancel | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | Stops | Stops |
| Data | Preserved | Preserved |
| Resume later | One click | Re-subscribe required |
| Marking | Disabled until you resume | Disabled until you re-subscribe |
If you’re not sure whether you’ll be back, pause is usually the better choice — it keeps the option open.
What if I have top-up submissions when I pause?
Top-ups stay on your account through a pause. When you resume, they’re still there — same as before.

FAQs
How long can I pause for?
Indefinitely. There’s no time limit on a pause.
Can I share results with students while paused?
Yes — existing share links still work, and you can generate new ones. Only marking new submissions is disabled.
Will I get charged on the day I resume?
You’ll be charged for the new billing cycle starting on the resume date. The pause stops the meter while you’re away.
