Tracking jobs: the Activity screen

The Activity screen is your single source of truth for everything Marking.ai is doing in the background — marking jobs, re-marking, and exports. This article shows you what’s on it and how to use it.

Getting to Activity

Click Activity in the left-hand sidebar. The screen lists every job you’ve started, newest first.

The three tabs

At the top of the screen, three tabs split the list by overall status:

  • All — every job, regardless of status
  • Active — jobs that are currently running or queued
  • Failed — jobs that hit an error and need your attention

If something’s gone wrong, Failed is the fastest way to find it.

Filtering by type

A second filter lets you narrow by job type:

  • Marking — new submissions being marked for the first time
  • Remarking — submissions or questions being re-marked
  • Exports — PDF and CSV exports being generated

Combine the tabs and the type filter to focus on exactly what you care about (e.g. Active + Marking to see what’s currently being marked).

What each row tells you

Each job row shows:

  • The type of job (marking, remark, export)
  • The target — the assessment, submission, or batch the job is acting on
  • A progress bar with current/total and a percentage
  • The status (queued, processing, complete, failed)
  • Quick actions — jump to the relevant assessment or submission, retry, etc.

Live updates

The Activity screen updates in real time — you don’t need to refresh. As soon as a marking job moves from queued to processing, or from processing to complete, the screen reflects it.

What to do with a failed job

If a job shows up under Failed, click into it to see what went wrong. Most failures have a one-click retry. If retrying doesn’t work, the linked help article from the job (or My submission processing failed — what now?) will help.

Where Activity fits in

Activity is the cross-assessment view of progress. If you only care about one assessment, the submissions table within that assessment already shows status per submission — see The assessment detail tabs. Use Activity when you want to see everything in one place, or when you’re hunting down a job that’s gone quiet.

FAQs

How long do completed jobs stay on the Activity screen?

Indefinitely — your history doesn’t expire. As you scroll down, older jobs load in.

Why is my marking job still queued?

A queued job is waiting for capacity. They normally clear within a minute or two; if a job stays queued for much longer, drop us a line.

Can I cancel an in-progress job?

Marking jobs can’t currently be cancelled mid-flight, but you can retry or override the result afterwards. Exports can be cancelled if you’ve changed your mind — use the action menu on the job row.
