The scope chip — Marko knows where you are

Marko adapts to wherever you are in the app. If you’re on a submission, Marko assumes you want to talk about that submission. If you’re on an assessment, Marko assumes the assessment. This is shown as a scope chip at the top of the Marko panel.

What the scope chip shows

The chip is a small label at the top of the Marko panel. It might say:

  • The assessment title — if you’re on an assessment page
  • A student name + assessment title — if you’re on a specific submission
  • A student name — if you’re on a student detail page
  • Nothing — if you’re on the home page or somewhere without specific scope

Why scope matters

Scope lets you talk to Marko in shorthand. Instead of “how did Jane Smith do on Year 9 Biology Test 1?”, you can just ask “how did this student do?” when you’re already on her submission.

Changing scope

You have two ways to change scope:

  • Navigate — the simplest way. Go to the page you want to talk about, and the chip updates.
  • Name it explicitly — say “in Year 9 Biology Test 1” or “for Alice Johnson” and Marko switches to that scope for your question. The chip updates to reflect the change.

No scope = workspace scope

If you’re on the home page (or somewhere without a specific scope), Marko’s default is “everything in your workspace.” Questions like “which students are struggling overall?” or “what should I focus on next?” work great from there.

FAQs

Can I clear the scope chip?

Navigate to a page without scope (e.g. the home page) and the chip clears. There isn’t a dedicated “clear scope” button — navigating is the gesture.

What happens if I ask about something outside the current scope?

Marko handles it. The scope is a default, not a constraint — if you name a different assessment or student, Marko follows your lead.

Does Marko remember the scope across sessions?

No — scope is tied to the page you’re on. When you come back to Marking.ai, scope resets based on wherever you land.
