Meet Marko

Marko is your AI assistant inside Marking.ai. Think of Marko as a colleague who’s always there, knows the product inside out, and can help you get things done in plain English.

This article introduces who Marko is and what they can help with.

Where to find Marko

Marko lives in two places:

  • The avatar in the top-right of every page — click it to open the Marko panel.
  • The hero on your home page — a centred greeting with a chat input and suggested prompts.

What Marko is for

Two big things:

  • Asking questions. “How did the class do on the Year 9 essay?” “Which questions caused the most trouble?” “Show me Alice’s submission.”
  • Doing things. “Mark these 12 submissions.” “Retry all failed.” “Share results with my whole class.” “Remember I prefer strict marking.”

How Marko knows what you mean

Marko reads your current page and uses it as context. If you’re on a submission, Marko knows which submission. If you’re on an assessment, Marko knows the assessment. You can see this context as a scope chip at the top of the Marko panel — see The scope chip — Marko knows where you are.

Marko’s memory

Marko quietly remembers a few things about how you like to teach — marking strictness, feedback tone, and core preferences. These get used to make automatic marking and Marko’s suggestions feel more like you. You’re always in control of what Marko remembers — see Marko’s memory: what it remembers.

Safety first

Marko never takes a big action without showing you exactly what’s about to happen first. If you ask Marko to mark 28 submissions, you’ll see a preview of the scope and a Confirm button before anything runs. See How Marko confirms before acting.

FAQs

Is Marko a chatbot?

Sort of. Marko is a conversational AI assistant, but unlike a generic chatbot, Marko is wired directly into Marking.ai and can take real actions — not just give advice.

Do I have to use Marko?

No. You can use Marking.ai without ever talking to Marko — every feature has a clickable UI. Marko is for when chatting is faster than clicking.

Will Marko ever do something I didn’t ask for?

No. Anything that changes data shows you a preview and asks for explicit confirmation before it runs.
