Deleting submissions
Sometimes you’ll want to remove a submission — a duplicate, a wrong upload, or one that’s failed and you don’t want to retry. This article covers both single and bulk deletion.
Deleting a single submission
- Open the assessment.
- In the submissions table, find the row.
- Click the row’s actions menu and choose Delete.
- Confirm in the dialog.
The submission, its marks, feedback, and any share link associated with it are removed immediately.
Deleting many submissions at once
- Open the assessment.
- Select the submissions you want to delete using the row checkboxes.
- In the bulk action toolbar that appears, click Delete.
- Confirm.
What gets deleted
- The submission file (the student’s uploaded work)
- All marks and feedback for that submission
- Any share link associated with it
- The submission’s entry in class-level insights
What stays
- The student record — deleting a submission doesn’t delete the student
- The assessment itself — only the submission is removed
- Other submissions in the same assessment
Will deletion refund the submission?
No — once a submission has been marked, the credit is spent regardless of later deletion. If a submission failed and wasn’t marked, no credit was used to begin with.

FAQs
Can I undo a deletion?
Deletion is permanent. If you’ve deleted something by mistake, drop us a line at connect@marking.ai quickly — in some cases we can restore from backup.
What if a student uploaded twice and I want to keep the better one?
Review both submissions, decide which to keep, then delete the other.
Will the student notice if I delete a shared submission?
If the student opens their share link after deletion, they’ll see a “link not found” message. If you’ve already shared and want to remove access cleanly, revoke the link first.
