Comparing assessments and finding patterns with Marko

The single-assessment views (Overview, Questions, Misconceptions, Student detail) cover the per-assessment lens. For cross-assessment analysis — comparing terms, tracking improvements, finding patterns — Marko is the place.

This article gives you example prompts to try.

Why use Marko for this

Marko has the whole of your data available in conversation — every assessment, every student, every mark. That lets you ask questions that span multiple assessments without clicking through each one yourself.

Comparing assessments

Try prompts like:

  • “Compare how the class did on the autumn and spring biology mocks”
  • “Which assessment had the biggest spread of marks?”
  • “Were students stronger on Year 9 Bio Test 1 or Test 2?”

Marko summarises the comparison and points at the most useful per-question detail.

Finding students who’ve changed

  • “Who’s improved most this term?”
  • “Who’s regressed since the last assessment?”
  • “Which students are most consistent?”

Marko surfaces the names and gives you direct links to their detail pages.

Finding patterns

  • “What kinds of questions does the class consistently struggle with?”
  • “Are there recurring misconceptions across these three assessments?”
  • “Which topics are weakest right now?”

Marko looks across assessments rather than within one and reports back themes.

Drilling into a single student

  • “How is Alice doing across all her assessments?”
  • “Compare Sam’s performance in biology and chemistry”
  • “Which student is most off-trend right now?”

Tips

  • Be specific about scope when it matters. “This term’s biology assessments” is more useful than “recent assessments.”
  • Ask follow-ups. Marko keeps the thread — “and what about Year 11 specifically?” picks up from the previous answer.
  • Trust the links. Marko’s responses include direct links to assessments, students, or submissions — click through to verify the data.

FAQs

How far back does Marko look?

Marko can see your entire account history. Asking about “last term” or “the start of the year” works fine.

Sometimes — patterns across many assessments are hard for a human to see at once. Marko’s good at giving you a starting hypothesis. Always double-check the data before acting on it.

What if Marko’s analysis seems off?

Click into the underlying assessment and verify. Marko occasionally misreads scope or misses nuance — the data itself is always the source of truth.
