Share link expiry and privacy controls
Every share link in Marking.ai has an expiry and a set of visibility rules. This article covers how those work and what to do if you need to change them.
Link expiry
By default, share links expire after 90 days. You can change the default from Settings → Customisation under Expiry — options range from a few days to a year, or you can pick a custom value.
The expiry of an existing link is shown in the share dialog (“Expires on 12 August 2026”).
Extending or regenerating
If a link is about to expire and you need to keep access open:
- Open the share dialog for that submission
- Click Regenerate — it mints a new link with the current default expiry and revokes the old one
Sharing the new link with the student replaces the old one. The old link stops working immediately.
Revoking a link
If you need to cut off access altogether — a wrong link sent, a marking error you want to fix first — click Regenerate and don’t share the new link. The old one stops working straight away.
Visibility controls
From Settings → Customisation, the What’s visible section lets you choose what the student sees on the share page:
- Feedback — your per-question feedback
- Breakdown — marks per question
- Marking guide — the mark scheme alongside each question
Defaults apply to every new share link, but you can override them per link before sharing.
What students can and can’t do with the link
- They can view their own results
- They can see the marking guide if you’ve left it visible
- They can download a PDF of their results
- They can’t see other students’ work
- They can’t edit anything
- They can’t sign in to Marking.ai

FAQs
What happens to the student if I revoke their link?
Next time they open it, they’ll see a “This link has been revoked” message. If they need access again, generate a new link and share it.
Can I set different expiries for different students?
The default applies to all new links, but you can change the expiry per link before you share it. Use the share dialog and adjust before clicking Copy.
What if a student loses the link?
Not a problem — reopen the share dialog and copy the same link to send again. The link is the same until you regenerate or revoke.
