Your home page: Marko hero and dashboard
Your home page is the first thing you see when you sign in to Marking.ai. It’s designed to give you two things at once: a quick way to talk to Marko, and a dashboard view of what’s going on across your work.
The two states
The home page has two modes, and you can flip between them by opening or closing the Marko panel:
- Marko hero — Marko’s avatar, a personalised greeting, suggested prompts, and a chat input sit front and centre, with your dashboard below.
- Marko docked — when you’ve opened Marko in the side panel, the hero collapses into a smaller greeting and your dashboard takes the full width of the screen.
Both states show the same underlying dashboard — only the way Marko is presented changes.
The greeting and suggested prompts
Marko’s greeting is personalised to you and adapts based on what’s going on — for example, you might see “Welcome back, Sarah — you’ve been away three days” or “Good morning. You’ve got 12 submissions waiting to be marked.”
Beneath the greeting, you’ll see suggested prompts you can click instead of typing. These are dynamic too — they change based on whether you have active marking jobs, recently completed assessments, or unanswered questions Marko thinks you might want to ask.
Start marking
The blue Start marking button is your shortcut to creating a new assessment or adding submissions to an existing one. Click it any time to open the Start marking window — see Your first assessment: a 5-minute walkthrough for what’s inside.
Your dashboard
Beneath the hero, your dashboard surfaces what’s happening across your work:
- Headline metrics — submissions marked, active assessments, average score, students taught
- Time saved — an estimate of how many hours you’ve saved by using Marking.ai
- Active marking jobs — anything currently being processed
- Recent assessments — the assessments you’ve been working on most recently, with quick links to open them
- Recently marked — the latest submissions completed, ready for review
- Usage tip — a rotating tip on a feature you might not have tried yet
Filtering the dashboard
If you teach multiple subjects, you can filter the dashboard view by subject or by a specific assessment. The metrics and lists below the filter will update to match.
Setup checklist (new users only)
If you’re brand new and haven’t finished onboarding, you’ll see a setup checklist at the top of the home page. It tracks three things:
- Upload your first assessment and submission
- Set your feedback preferences
- Complete your profile
Each item links you straight to where you can finish it. Once everything’s done (or once you dismiss it), the checklist disappears.
