Exporting a class summary
A Class summary is a single PDF that covers an entire class’s performance on an assessment — averages, distributions, common misconceptions, students needing support. Great for handing to a head of department, sharing with the year team, or attaching to a marking review.
What’s on it
A Class summary PDF typically includes:
- The assessment title and overall class stats (average, pass rate, students marked)
- A score distribution chart
- Question-by-question performance — which were the easiest, which were the hardest
- Common misconceptions across the class
- A list of students who might need extra support
It mirrors the insights you can see on the Overview, Questions, and Misconceptions tabs of the assessment — packaged for sharing.
How to download one
- Open the assessment.
- Click the ⋯ More actions menu at the top right and choose Export.
- In the Export dialog, find the Class Summaries card and click Download.
Marking.ai builds the PDF and downloads it.
What about per-student summaries for the whole class?
That’s a different export — use Class Submission Reports from the same Export dialog to get one PDF per student bundled together.
Branding
If you’ve set up branding (logo + brand colour) in Settings → Branding, the Class summary PDF picks it up automatically. See Branding your shared outputs.

FAQs
When should I export a class summary vs. read the Overview tab?
Use the Overview tab to read insights yourself; export the Class summary when you need to share the same information offline, in a meeting, or in a written record.
What if I haven’t marked all submissions yet?
The summary only includes the marks that exist. If you export partway through, it’ll reflect the data marked so far. Re-export after every batch if you want the full picture.
Can I share the Class summary directly with my class?
The Class summary is teacher-facing — it shows class-level patterns. For student-facing reports, use the share link or the Student summary PDF.
