My student upload link isn't working
Student upload links usually “just work” — but if a student is reporting trouble, here are the common causes.
Step 1: check the link is still active
Open the link’s dialog from the assessment (Upload submissions → Student upload link mode). Look for:
- Status — is it Active, Expired, or Revoked?
- Expiry date — has it passed?
If the link is expired or revoked, click Extend or regenerate the link, then share the fresh link with your students. See Student upload links.
Step 2: check the file your student is trying to upload
Common reasons an upload fails on the student’s end:
- File too large — individual files are capped at 50 MB
- Wrong format — PDFs and common image formats only. Word documents won’t work.
- Browser quirks — ask the student to try a different browser or device
Step 3: check the student’s name field
If the student got an error after typing their name, it might be because:
- The name was left blank — the form requires a name
- A character was unsupported (rare — emojis, very long strings)
Step 4: check your school’s network
If students are uploading from a school network, the network may be blocking outbound uploads (especially for very large files). Suggest they try from a different connection (home, mobile data) to test.
Step 5: get in touch
If you’ve checked all the above and uploads are still failing, drop us a line at connect@marking.ai with the link and a description of the error. We can investigate.

FAQs
My student says the link gives a “Link not found” error.
Most likely it was revoked or expired. Generate a fresh link and share it again.
My student uploaded but I don’t see the submission.
Give it a minute — there’s a small processing delay. Refresh the submissions table. If it’s still not there after a few minutes, get in touch.
Can I see who clicked the link?
We don’t track click-throughs, but uploaded submissions show with the name the student entered.
