Exporting class data and marks (CSV)

If you live in spreadsheets — or need to push marks into your gradebook or another tool — CSV exports are the fastest way to get class-level data out of Marking.ai.

This article covers what’s available.

Where to find CSV exports

  1. Open the assessment you want to export from.
  2. Click the ⋯ More actions menu at the top right and choose Export.
  3. The Export dialog shows your CSV options.

Marks (CSV)

The simplest export — one row per student, with their total mark and percentage. Use this for:

  • Pasting marks into a gradebook
  • Quick class-level overviews
  • Sharing summary data with colleagues

Class Data (CSV)

A “long format” export with one row per student per question. Each row shows the question, the mark awarded, and any other per-question data. Use this when you want to:

  • Pivot the data by question, by student, or by topic
  • Run your own analysis in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Cross-reference student performance against other data

Per-submission CSV

If you only need data for one submission, the submission’s Export dialog also offers a Submission Data (CSV) option — a per-question breakdown for that one student.

FAQs

What encoding does the CSV use?

UTF-8, with a header row, comma-separated. It opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, and most other tools.

Will the CSV include teacher edits or just the AI’s marks?

It includes the final marks — your edits override the AI, and the export reflects what your students would see.

Can I exclude certain students from the export?

Not from the export dialog directly. The simplest workaround is to filter your submissions table first, then bulk-select the students you want and use the per-row Export. For more flexibility, drop us a line.
