Editing or clearing Marko's memory

Everything Marko remembers about your preferences lives in one place — Settings → Marko’s memory. You can view, edit, or clear each preference from there. This article shows you how.

Getting there

Click Settings in the top-right account menu, then open the Marko’s memory tab. (You can also click Marko’s name at the top of the chat panel — it links straight there.)

What’s on the page

At the top is a Learning preferences card with two toggles that control how Marko picks things up:

• Let Marko remember preferences automatically — when on, Marko saves a preference as soon as you state one in chat; when off, he asks first.
• Let Marko notice patterns and ask about them — when on, Marko watches for patterns (like repeated mark overrides) and asks you about them in chat; he never writes to memory from observation alone.

Below that, you’ll find one card for each memory slot:

• Core memory — freeform notes (markdown supported) for any rules or conventions you want Marko and the marking engine to follow
• Marking strictness — lenient, balanced, or strict
• Feedback tone — warm, neutral, or direct

Each slot shows the current value, whether you set it or it was inferred, when it was last updated, an edit control, and a Forget button to clear that slot.

Editing a value

• Marking strictness and Feedback tone are dropdowns — pick a value and click Save.
• Core memory is a free-form markdown editor — type your notes and click Save.

Your edits take effect immediately — the next submission Marking.ai marks, and the next thing Marko says, both read from the updated value.

Clearing a value

Each slot has its own Forget button (the bin icon). Use it to clear just that preference. For strictness and tone you’ll get a quick confirmation dialog first; core memory clears on click. Once cleared, the marking engine falls back to default behaviour for that setting until you (or Marko) save something new there.

There is no single “clear everything” button — you clear each slot individually. This is deliberate, so you never wipe more than you meant to.

The activity log (read-only)

Under each slot is an Activity accordion — “what’s happened to this preference.” Open it to see a timeline: when you set or cleared the value, when Marko saved or forgot it from chat, and when Marko noticed a pattern worth asking about.

This log is read-only — it’s a record, not a control panel. You don’t approve or decline suggestions here. When Marko spots a pattern, he asks you about it in the chat, and you answer him there. The activity log then shows what you decided.

FAQs

What happens if I clear my marking strictness?

Future marking uses default strictness. You can set a new value any time, either from this page or by telling Marko in chat.

Can I save multiple things in core memory?

Yes — it’s a free-form markdown area, so write as much (or as little) as you find useful. A few short, structured notes (bullet points work well) are usually more effective than a long paragraph.

How do I respond to a memory suggestion Marko makes?

In the chat. When Marko notices a pattern he’ll ask you about it there, and you reply in the conversation. The memory page’s activity log records the outcome but isn’t where you respond.

Will my edits show up in chat with Marko?

Yes — Marko reads from the same memory store. Any value you save here is what Marko uses next conversation.
