Customisation: feedback structure, language, share defaults, currency

The Customisation tab is where you put your fingerprint on Marking.ai — the structure of feedback, language dialect, default share settings, and your preferred currency. This article walks through what’s here.

Getting there

Click your avatar in the top-right corner, choose Settings, then open the Customisation tab.

Feedback structure

Feedback structure controls the layout of the AI-generated feedback your students see — the sections, the ordering, and what each section focuses on.

You can:

Pick a preset structure (e.g. “Strengths and Improvements”)
Define your own — in the text area, describe exactly how feedback should be structured. “Start with one specific strength. Then list one improvement, written as a next step. Keep total length under 60 words.”

This is the structure of feedback — not instructions on how to mark or what to assess. For marking guidance, edit the marking guide on the assessment.

Language

The regional dialect used in marks, feedback, and student summaries. Pick from options like British English, US English, Australian English, and others. Affects spelling (colour vs color), vocabulary, and small turns of phrase.

The defaults applied when you create a new share link or generate a student upload link.

Default link expiry — how long new student share links last by default (e.g. 30 days, 90 days, 1 year)
What’s visible — toggle which sections appear on the student-facing results page by default: Feedback, Breakdown, Marking guide
Default method — which path the Start Marking window opens to when you click Start marking. You can override per session.
Default student upload link expiry — how long new upload links stay open

You can override any of these per link when you create it.

Currency

The currency prices display in. Pick from USD, GBP, AUD, and others. Behind the scenes the actual charge is always in USD — the display currency is just for your view. See Currency switching (USD, GBP, AUD…).

Saving your changes

Each section has its own Save button. Changes take effect for everything after you save — already-marked submissions and existing share links aren’t affected retroactively.

FAQs

Will changing feedback structure re-write past feedback?

No — changes apply to new marking. To re-generate past feedback with a new structure, use Save & re-mark on individual questions. See Save & re-mark: re-running a single question.

Can I have different feedback structures per assessment?

Not today — Customisation is account-wide. If this would be useful, drop us a line.

What if I want feedback in a non-English language?

We currently support English variants only. More languages are on the roadmap.
