Sharing a marked submission with a student

Once you’re happy with a student’s marks, you can share them privately with that student via a unique link. They don’t need a Marking.ai account — just the link.

This article shows you how to share an individual submission.

Opening the share dialog

From the submission row (in the submissions table) or from the Mark details workspace header, click Share. The Share with student dialog opens.

First time you share a particular submission, Marking.ai generates a link. After that, the dialog shows you the existing link.

The link points to a student-facing page showing just this student’s results for the assessment — their marks per question, your feedback, and (depending on your settings) the marking guide.

You can control what’s visible from your default share settings in Settings → Customisation. See Setting your default share preferences.

Click Copy link to grab it, then paste it wherever your student will see it — email, an LMS, a private chat, or wherever you usually communicate with them.

The link is private to that student. Don’t share it publicly or with anyone the marks aren’t intended for.

Expiry

Links have a configurable expiry — the default is 90 days, but you can change the default in your settings. Once a link expires, the student sees an “expired” message.

If you need to extend access, regenerate the link from the share dialog.

If you need to cut off access (you’ve spotted a mistake, or the student shouldn’t have seen it yet), open the share dialog and click Regenerate — the old link stops working immediately and a new one takes its place. If you don’t need a replacement, you can leave it revoked.

Bulk sharing

For a whole class, don’t share one by one — use the bulk share action instead. See Bulk-sharing a whole class.

Does the student need a Marking.ai account?

No. The link itself is enough — anyone with the link can view the results.

What does the student see?

A page showing their own marks and your feedback for each question. By default the marking guide is also visible, but you can hide it from your settings.

Yes — there’s no per-viewer limit on the link. Anyone you forward it to can view the page until it’s revoked or expires.
