Time-saved metric
On your home page dashboard, you’ll see a Time saved metric — an estimate of how many hours Marking.ai has saved you. This article explains how it’s calculated.
What it represents
The number estimates the marking time you’d have spent doing the same work by hand. It’s meant to show the cumulative value of AI-assisted marking — not a precise measurement.
How it’s calculated
It’s simple and flat: 4 minutes per answer marked.
Every answer across every marked submission counts as 4 minutes saved. Multiply your total marked answers by 4 minutes, convert to hours, and that’s your total.
That’s the whole formula. In particular, it does not:
- weight by the marks available or the length of the answer
- subtract the time you spent reviewing in Marking.ai
- track your actual screen time
It’s a deliberately rough benchmark against hand-marking, not an accountant’s number.
Where you see it
- On the home page dashboard, as a headline metric card. Click it to open a weekly breakdown — an area chart of hours saved over the last 10 weeks, each week starting on Monday.
The dashboard metrics (including Time saved) are available on any active plan or free trial. On a top-up-only balance they’re locked — see What’s included on your plan.
What it isn’t
- Not the time spent on the computer — we don’t track screen time
- Not a measure of your speed — it’s a flat benchmark against hand-marking
- Not financial or contractual — don’t use this number for billing your school

FAQs
Does editing marks change the time saved?
Time saved is based on how many answers were marked, not on how much you edited them. Re-marking a whole submission counts its answers again toward the total.
Why is my time saved smaller than I expected?
It’s a flat 4 minutes per answer, so assessments with fewer questions add less per submission. The number rewards consistent marking over time rather than any single big assessment.
Can I see time saved per assessment?
The dashboard figure is cumulative across all your marking, with a 10-week weekly breakdown in the dialog. A per-assessment view isn’t surfaced today.
