Who can see student work

Student work is sensitive. This article explains exactly who can see what within Marking.ai — and how to control it.

By default, only you

When you upload a submission and Marking.ai marks it, only you can see:

  • The student’s submission file
  • The marks awarded
  • The AI’s rationale
  • The feedback (AI-written or your edits)
  • The metadata (who submitted, when)

No other teacher — including teachers in the same school workspace — has access without you explicitly sharing.

When you share with a student

If you create a share link for a submission, the student (and anyone they pass the link to) can see:

  • Their own marks and feedback for that one submission
  • The marking guide, if you’ve left it visible

The link doesn’t expose any other student’s work, your other assessments, or anything beyond what’s necessary for that student.

You control the link — you can revoke it any time. See Share link expiry and privacy controls.

Inside a school workspace

If you’re part of a school workspace:

  • Other teachers in the workspace cannot see your submissions or marks — they have their own private workspace within the shared account
  • Workspace owners and admins can see usage statistics (how many submissions each teacher has marked) but not the marks, students, or feedback themselves
  • Billing details are visible only to the Owner

This is by design — a department’s billing relationship and team management is shared, but each teacher’s marking work stays private.

What our team can see

The Marking.ai support team can access your account when you raise a specific support issue. This is to help us troubleshoot what you’re stuck on. We don’t browse customer data outside of that context.

If you’d like a record of when support accessed your account, drop us a line.

What students can’t do

A student opening a share link can:

  • View their own results
  • Download a PDF summary

A student can’t:

  • See other students’ results
  • Edit anything
  • See your internal teacher view (confidence indicators, AI chain-of-thought)
  • Sign in to Marking.ai as you

FAQs

Can my colleague see the assessments I’ve created?

No — not unless you explicitly share them. School workspace members still have private data.

No. Each share link is unique to one student and shows only that student’s data.

What about parents?

If you send a parent the share link, they see the same page the student would. Sharing the link is your call — it’s not automatic.
