Asking Marko to re-mark a submission
If a submission needs to be re-marked from scratch — not just edited — you can ask Marko. This article walks through how.
When to re-mark via Marko
A few scenarios:
- The submission was marked against an old version of the marking guide and you’ve since improved it
- Something about the original marking looks systematically off
- You want a fresh second-opinion AI pass after editing the question
Prompts to try
From the Marko panel:
- “Re-mark this submission” (when you’re on a submission page — the scope chip handles the rest)
- “Re-mark Alice’s Year 9 Biology Test 1 submission”
- “Re-mark every submission in this assessment” (for the whole class)
Marko will preview the action — how many submissions, which questions, what happens to existing marks — before running.
What happens during re-marking
For each submission you’ve asked Marko to re-mark:
- The submission flips into a re-marking state on the submissions table
- The AI marker runs from scratch on each question
- New marks, rationale, and feedback replace the previous AI marks
- Teacher-edited marks are preserved — Marko doesn’t overwrite your manual overrides
For just one question
If you only want to re-mark a single question across many submissions, that’s exactly what Save & re-mark on the question itself does — see Save & re-mark: re-running a single question. You can also ask Marko: “re-mark Q4 across all submissions in this assessment.”
What about the per-submission UI?
There isn’t a dedicated “Re-mark this submission” button in the UI yet — Marko is the way to trigger it. Per-question re-mark is a UI flow (the Save & re-mark button); whole-submission re-mark goes through Marko.

FAQs
Will re-marking use my submissions allowance?
No — re-marking a submission you’ve already marked doesn’t count against your plan.
Will my edits be lost?
No — teacher-edited marks survive a re-mark. Only the AI-marked questions get refreshed.
What if the re-mark fails?
It’ll show up in the Failed tab of the Activity screen with a retry option. See Retrying failed submissions in bulk.
