Marking.ai is built to give teachers their time back. We use AI to take the heavy lifting out of marking, so you can spend less time scoring papers and more time doing the parts of teaching only you can do.

This article gives you a quick overview of what Marking.ai does, how it works, and where to head next.

What Marking.ai does

In short: you upload an assessment, a marking guide, and your students’ work — and Marking.ai marks it for you, giving each student personalised marks and feedback that you can review, edit, and share.

You can use Marking.ai for:

• Tests, quizzes, and end-of-unit assessments
• Essays and short-answer questions
• Mixed papers (multiple-choice, written responses, problem-solving, and more)
• Handwritten or typed work in PDFs or common image formats
• Whole-class marking or individual student submissions

How it works

There are four core stages to using Marking.ai:

1. Create an assessment. Upload the test paper and a marking guide. Marking.ai reads the paper and extracts each question so you can confirm it got everything right.
2. Upload student submissions. Drop in your students’ work as PDFs or images. You can upload one file per student, a single combined PDF, or share a link so your students can upload their own work.
3. Let Marking.ai mark. Marking happens in the background. Most assessments finish in a few minutes — you can keep working, close your laptop, or grab a coffee.
4. Review, edit, and share. Every mark and piece of feedback is editable. You stay in control of what gets sent to your students.

Meet Marko, your AI assistant

Marko is the assistant in the top-right corner of every page. Chat with Marko to ask about your class’s performance, kick off marking jobs, change settings, or get quick answers — all in plain English. Marko respects your time and never takes a destructive action without showing you exactly what’s about to happen first.

A note on trust

Marking.ai is designed to help you mark faster — never to replace your professional judgement. Every mark, rationale, and piece of feedback Marking.ai produces is yours to review, edit, or override. We surface confidence levels and reasoning so you can spot anything that needs a closer look.
