School plans: how they work
Marking.ai’s School plan is built for departments, schools, or organisations where multiple teachers are marking with Marking.ai. This article explains the basics of how a School plan is set up and how it differs from the individual plans.
One workspace, many teachers
A School plan creates a workspace that multiple teachers join. Every teacher in the workspace:
- Has their own Marking.ai account
- Marks against the school’s pooled allowance
- Has access to the same shared brand settings
- Is managed under one billing relationship
A pooled annual allowance
Instead of each teacher getting their own monthly allowance, the whole school shares an annual pool of submissions. Teachers draw from the same pool as they mark.
This matters because:
- A teacher with a heavy mock-season can draw more without renegotiating
- A teacher who barely marks doesn’t “waste” their share
- The school admin sees usage at a glance and can plan ahead
The pool typically resets at the start of each annual cycle.
Admin tools
Owners and admins of a school workspace get access to a Workspace tab in Settings. From there they can:
- See the pooled balance and how much is left
- View a per-teacher usage breakdown
- See and manage the member roster
- Invite teachers and assign roles

Three roles
Within a school workspace, members have one of four roles:
- Owner — full admin, including billing
- Admin — can invite, manage roles, and see usage — no billing changes
- Teacher (Member) — can mark, share, and use Marking.ai normally
- Viewer — read-only access (rare; used for occasional observers)

Branding and customisation
School workspaces use shared branding (logo, primary colour) so every teacher’s outputs look consistent. Individual teachers can still tweak their own personal profile and notification preferences.
Billing
School plans are sales-led with annual billing. Your school admin is the billing contact. Individual teachers don’t see prices or invoices.

FAQs
Can I move my existing solo account into a school plan?
Yes — your existing assessments, students, and history come with you when you join a school workspace. Reach out and we’ll handle the migration.
What happens if the school pool runs out?
The school admin can extend capacity by getting in touch. Individual teachers see a cap-reached message asking them to contact the admin or sales.
Do teachers in a school workspace get a personal monthly allowance too?
No — everyone draws from the shared pool. The trade-off is more flexibility across the team.
