How Marko confirms before acting
Marko’s job is to make life easier — not to surprise you. Any action that affects more than a single thing, or that’s hard to undo, shows you a preview before it runs. You explicitly confirm before anything happens.
This article explains how the confirmation pattern works.
When confirmation kicks in
Marko asks for confirmation when an action:
- Affects more than one thing — e.g. marking a batch, sharing with a class, retrying multiple failed submissions
- Is hard to reverse — e.g. deleting an assessment or merging students
- Will use a noticeable chunk of your plan — e.g. marking dozens of submissions
- Updates your preferences or memory — e.g. saving a new strictness setting
For truly tiny actions (opening a page, looking something up, answering a question), Marko just gets on with it. The confirmation pattern is for the things that matter.
What the preview shows
When Marko proposes an action, you’ll see a card with:
- A short, plain description of what’s about to happen
- The specific scope — e.g. “24 submissions in Year 9 Biology Test 1”
- Confirm and Cancel buttons
Read it. If the scope is wrong (“this would mark every submission in the workspace, not just this class”), cancel and rephrase your request.
Confirming
Click Confirm to run the action. Marko kicks it off and updates you when it’s done — either inline in the chat or via a notification.
Cancelling
Click Cancel to drop the action. Nothing happens; you can rephrase and try again.
What if I don’t see a confirmation?
For lightweight actions — reading data, opening a page, answering a question — Marko skips confirmation because there’s nothing reversible to confirm. If you’ve asked Marko to do something that does change data and you don’t see a preview, take a careful look at what happened and let us know if it looks wrong.

Can I bypass confirmation?
No — by design. The preview is a check-in to make sure you and Marko are aligned before anything changes.
Why doesn’t Marko confirm when answering questions?
Reading data doesn’t change anything, so there’s nothing to confirm. Confirmation is only for actions that write or modify.
What if a confirmation has been sitting unanswered for a while?
It’ll expire automatically after a while. If that happens, just ask again — Marko will propose the action fresh.
